Over the past twenty years I’ve written three novels. Caesura, published in 2010, is a story about a family looking for one more piece of beautiful music. On the Water’s Edge, published in 2014, is the story of a retired attorney who moves to the Eastern Seaboard and finds a sense of peace that has eluded him. True North, published in 2021, is the story of one man’s need to seek redemption. I am currently working on my fourth novel.
The music seemed to be slowing for Helen Telford. After the death of her husband six years prior, she has persevered with the help of her children. As they see their mother’s memory begin to slip away, Helen’s son Michael and his siblings find themselves becoming the conductor of their mother’s life.
Ultimately, the siblings realize that Helen needs more care than they can provide. With the darkness of dementia closing in, their lives come to an interminable pause as they come to terms with the new realities of their lives. When Michael finds himself caught between his mother’s needs and the needs of his own life, will he be able to resume the music in his life or remain paused in a world he can no longer control?
It didn’t take the sound of the distant train to make him feel lonely. He felt her absence long before the whistle blew. The opening line of On the Water’s Edge sets the tone for a story of loss and recovery. When Rand Logan retires from a thirty-year career in the law, his goal is to travel around the country seeking a new place to settle. But at his first stop in St. Michaels, Maryland, a small village on the Eastern Seaboard, Rand embarks on a journey that challenges him to discover the worth of small town life and his place in it. As the local shopkeepers face the specter of a megastore seeking to build on the outskirts of town, with the likelihood that many old small businesses will be crushed by the behemoth, Rand is enlisted to fight for their survival. In the course of his return to the practice of law, Rand finds not only a sense of peace which had been eluding him, but a woman who convinces him that he can fall in love again.
Jack Doyle, a veteran soldier and firefighter/paramedic has seen more than his share of injuries and death. As his years of service pass by, he finds that he has lost his patience with the world around him, and the patients he had sworn to serve. When Jack mishandles a call for emergency services, his career is in jeopardy. At the heart of this story is the struggle of one man’s goal to find his moral compass.proud to have.
